He is remembered for his adventurous spirit and individuality, leaving behind a family that includes his mother, Joan Stewart Ray; his grandmother, Clara Thomas Stewart; his uncle, Rickey A. Stewart; and his cousins, Trent Stewart, Delon Stewart, and Jamie L. Stewart Petty.

Renowned as a free spirit during his youth, he chose to forge his own path, embarking on adventures that took him from Alabama to the vibrant streets of Berkeley, California, following a brief period in college after high school.
