Conard G. Atchley, a beloved resident of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 83. He spent his final moments surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy defined by his kindness, strength, and unique sense of humor.
Born on June 4, 1941, Atchley dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving his country and contributing to his community. He joined the United States Army and served honorably as a Specialist 5 (SP5). Following his military service, he embarked on a 42-year career with Teledyne, where he excelled in accounting and purchasing, ultimately retiring as a Senior Buyer. His professional life showcased his commitment to hard work and determination.
Atchley was not only known for his professional accomplishments but also for being a jack of all trades. He possessed impressive handyman skills and was capable of fixing nearly anything that came his way. His passion extended beyond repairs, as he devoted a considerable amount of time to volunteer coaching, particularly in youth sports, inspiring many young athletes in the area.
In addition to his professional and volunteer commitments, Atchley had a deep love for collecting baseball cards. This hobby mirrored his appreciation for the simple joys in life and showcased his interests in different aspects of culture and history. He also enjoyed traveling, frequently setting sail on cruises with his wife, Carolyn Russell Atchley, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 64 years.
Conard Atchley is survived by his son, Robert “Rusty” Atchley (Kris), and his grandchildren: Christopher Atchley (Jess), Allison Boyd (David), Elizabeth Ashby (Chris), and Eddie Webster (Brittney). In addition to his grandchildren, he leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Kylie, Kolton, Harper, and Avery. Atchley was a loving patriarch whose influence extended throughout his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Conard F. and Minnie Atchley, as well as his siblings: sisters Katheryn Frank and Jean Hindman, and brother Frank Atchley. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, sisters Bennie Ruth Jacks and Patsy (Miley) Kelly, along with numerous extended family members and friends who cherished him dearly.
The visitation for Conard Atchley will be held on Monday, May 19th, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bobby Burt. Atchley will be laid to rest at Faith Memorial Park, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Church on the Hill benevolent fund, which can be found at thehillhsv.com. This gesture reflects Atchley’s commitment to helping others and embodying the spirit of community service that he valued throughout his life.
