PINE BLUFF, Ark. — Five different Alabama A&M players found the net Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs rolled to a 5-0 road win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s soccer match played at Pumphrey Stadium.
The Huntsville school got on the board in the 12th minute. Ja’Keyra Bryant set up Méghane St-Cyr for the opener, and Marley Walker made it 2-0 on her own in the 36th minute, which is how the first half ended.
The second half belonged to the visitors as well. Jordyn Washington fed Czaske Deane for a goal four minutes after the restart, Albany Rios finished a setup from Amelia Barber in the 64th minute, and Rios then turned provider, sending the ball to Brea Bailey for the final goal in the 85th minute.
Deane’s goal was her seventh of the season, the most on the team, and Bailey’s was her first. Rios ended the day with a goal and an assist.
It was a one-sided afternoon from the opening whistle. Alabama A&M put 12 shots up in the first half and 10 more after the break, while the Lady Lions managed just three attempts in each half.
The Bulldogs held a 22-6 edge in shots and did not allow a single shot on goal. Alabama A&M also had all three corner kicks in the match. Adriana Durango was in goal for the first half and was credited with the win, and Madelyn Cornwell played the second half to finish the clean sheet in front of an announced crowd of 50.
The result moves Alabama A&M to 6-5-3 overall and 4-1-1 in league play. The Bulldogs come back to Huntsville to face Southern on Sunday, Nov. 1, in their Senior Day match at Bulldog Soccer Field, with a 1 p.m. start.
